A Little About Moat Brae

Moat Brae is a wonderfully designed and re-imagined Georgian house, which provided a huge inspiration to J.M. Barrie and his writing of Peter Pan. This house and garden would have been a massive departure for the young Jamie, leaving his very humble family home to move to
Dumfries with his brother and start his education here.

Jamie and his friends would plan Pirate Battles and adventures in what is now “The Neverland Discovery Garden” where today you can still find an adventure of your own through pirate ships and mermaid lagoons.

The house itself has a deep and interesting history and has worn many faces over the years, from family home to a hospital and even to being mere days from being bulldozed to the ground.
